Michael Martinez ends up near bottom in Austria short program

MANILA, Philippines—Former Olympian Michael Martinez struggled in his routine and finished near the bottom of the table at the end of men’s short program of the 2021 CS Cup of Austria Saturday (Manila time) at Merkur Eisstadion in Graz, Austria.

Martinez, who competed in the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics, scored a 57.50 in his performance that put him in the 25th spot.

The 25-year-old figure skater was also hit with a full point deduction during his routine.

Lucas Tsuyoshi Honda, the reigning Japan junior national champion, led the table at 83.95 while Estonia’s Mihhail Selevko took the second spot with a score of 82.61.

Mauricio Zandron of Austria took finished the day at third with a score of 79.06.

Martinez will once again perform on Sunday for the free skate portion of the competition.

The CS Cup of Austria is the eighth of the ten events of the 2021-22 Figure Skating Challenger Series.
