MANILA, Philippines—The cast of imports for the PBA Governors’ Cup is set to be completed on Saturday, league commissioner Willie Marcial said.
As per the PBA’s website, Barangay Ginebra’s Justin Brownlee and Rain or Shine’s Henry Walker are set to fly in on Thursday while Meralco’s Tony Bishop, who replaced NBA veteran Shabazz Muhammad, could arrive on either Friday or Saturday.
“The imports are going to be complete, we’re just waiting for the final details from the venue hosts and that means that the start of the Governors’ Cup is near,” said Marcial in Filipino.
While most of the teams are ready to field a complete roster as early as possible, Ginebra, Rain or Shine, and Meralco will have to wait a little bit as their foreign reinforcements have to spend the mandatory quarantine period in a hotel.
Possible venues for the import conference are Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan, MOA Arena in Pasay, the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo and the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Bishop was a late replacement for Muhammad after the former Minnesota Timberwolves guard had a personal emergency.
Muhammad, who lives in Las Vegas, had already secured his visa from the Philippine consulate in Los Angeles and was ready to fly to the country before the emergency.
