Shorthanded San-En suffers eighth loss in a row

MANILA, Philippines—San-En’s downward spiral continued after its loss to Mikawa, 98-73, in the West Conference of the 2021-22 Japan B.League season Sunday at its home floor of Toyohashi City Gymnasium in Aichi.

The NeoPhoenix, who fielded just eight men, dropped their eighth straight game and slid to 3-12 for the 10th spot while the Seahorses got a share of the second seed at 10-5.

Thirdy Ravena was out again as he served the last of his two-game suspension.

Mikawa dictated the match from the opening period, taking a 27-17 lead at the end of the first and used that 10-point lead as its foundation throughout the game.

Hosoya Masashi finished with 17 points as he and six other Seahorses finished in double figures.

Jarrod Uthoff had a near double-double line of 14 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one steal while Nishida Yudai added 13 points for Mikawa.

Justin Knox led the NeoPhoenix with 19 points and 10 boards.

Shinshu, meanwhile, suffered another loss to Utsunomiya, 83-61, in its interconfertnce matchup at White Ring in Nagano.

The Brave Warriors dropped to 9-6 to get a share of the fourth spot with Nagoya in the West Conference while the Brex is in the same situation in the East sharing the no.4 seed with Alvark Tokyo at 10-5.

Chase Filer had a game-high 27 points, on 5-of-5 shooting from deep, to lead Utsunomiya while Josh Scott added 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one block.

Okada Yuta had 22 points to lead Shinshu as Matthew Aquino played less than three minutes.
