Hawks set team 3-point record in sinking Timberwolves

Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot made seven of Atlanta’s franchise-record 25 3-pointers and scored a season-high 23 points to help the visiting Hawks to a 121-110 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night.
Atlanta, which ended a two-game losing streak, was 25-for-49 on its 3-pointers, besting the season-high 18 treys made on Nov. 9 against Utah and topping the franchise record 23 set last season. Eight Hawks made a 3-pointer.
The Hawks also got 29 points and 11 assists from Trae Young and 20 points from reserve Danilo Gallinari, who each made four 3-pointers. Clint Capela had 16 rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Timberwolves were led by Karl-Anthony Towns, who returned from missing a game with a bruised tailbone to put up 31 points and 16 rebounds. Anthony Edwards added 20 points and seven assists, and Malik Beasley came off the bench to score 24 and keep Minnesota in the game with six 3-pointers. The Timberwolves have lost three in a row.
Atlanta has won four straight games in Minnesota and four straight on the road.
Atlanta came out firing from distance in the first quarter. The Hawks, who average only 12 3-pointers per game, connected for nine in the first quarter and ran off to a 33-24 lead. Gallinari came off the bench to score 12 in the first half and give Atlanta a 61-48 halftime lead.
The Hawks built the lead to 17 points on back-to-back 3s by Young and Luwawu-Cabarrot, but Minnesota scored six straight and got as close as 67-56. Atlanta called a timeout and responded with a 10-0 run to regain the momentum and take a 96-78 lead into the fourth quarter.
Minnesota used four 3s from Beasley to make it a 108-98 game at 5:22, but John Collins answered with a 3 and the Timberwolves were never able to whittle the lead into single-digits.
The Hawks split the back-to-back and won the second game of a back-to-back for only the second time in six tries.
