MANILA, Philippines—Kiefer Ravena on Tuesday paid a courtesy call to the Philippine Embassy in Japan.

The Shiga Lakestars guard met with Deputy Ambassador Robespierre Bolivar and donated a signed jersey to the embassy.

“It was very refreshing to be able to come to the Philippine Embassy, see many of my compatriots and speak in the same language. I am grateful to everyone who carries the Philippines on their backs, and to everyone who supports the players who carry the country on their backs,” Ravena said on the club website.

“I would be happy if I could make many companions here in Japan. Many Filipinos support us in every match. I have met many Filipinos who have supported me a lot. They are coming to see as many Filipino games as they play in Japan.”

The 28-year-old Ravena is one of several Filipinos playing in the B.League. They will headline the league’s Asia Rising Star Game next month.

“Hopefully, we will continue to support you and we can play to be proud of our country. Without the support of each of them, we wouldn’t have been able to continue playing here in the B League.”

Ravena and the Lakestars return to action on Saturday in the first of a two-game series with fellow Filipino Dwight Ramos and the Toyama Grouses.
