MANILA, Philippines—Two Filipino bets wrapped up their campaign without a medal in the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships Wednesday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Elien Perez settled for the eighth place in the women’s -49 kilogram lifting a total weight of 166kg (73kg snatch, 93kg clean and jerk).
Mary Flor Diaz, a silver medalist in the 2021 Asian Championships, failed in all of her three attempts in the snatch and was subsequently unranked in the women’s -45kg.
Perez registered a 73kg lift in her second snatch attempt after failing in her first try at the weight.
She then tried for for 77kg but could not complete the lift.
Perez was then successful in her first try at 93kg in the clean and jerk but failed at her two tries at 95kg.
Diaz, meanwhile, failed in three attempts at 65kg in the snatch but had an 80kg lift in her second attempt at the clean and jerk.
Thunya Sukcharoen of Thailand claimed the gold in the women’s -45kg division after lifting a total of 172kg (77kg snatch, 95kg clean and jerk while compatriot Surodchana Khambao ruled the women’s -55kg with a Toal of 191kg (86kg snatch, 105kg clean and jerk).
No Filipino has yet to win a medal so far as Fernando Agad finished eighth in the men’s -55kg on Wednesday.
Top women’s prospects like Tokyo Olympian Elreen Ando, Vanessa Sarno and Kristel Macrohon have yet to compete.
