MANILA, Philippinnes—The Philippines’ national volleyball teams are set to hold its training camps abroad in preparation for the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, which is set in May.

Ramon “Tats” Suzara, the president of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation, said during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum that the women’s team will train in Brazil while the men’s squad will fly to Italy.

“This is part of the exposure of our national team also, to travel to Europe and to South America,” said Suzara Tuesday. “We’re not going to stay in Asia because like the previous years when we went to Japan and Thailand.”

The men’s team trained in Korea in preparation for the 2019 SEA Games while the women’s squad had their camp in Japan.

“There’s something, a change for them, to play with South Americans and European teams during their training camp,” said Suzara.

The men’s national team are coming off a silver medal finish in the SEA Games in Manila while the women narrowly missed the podium taking the fourth spot in the regional competition.

“I’m really targeting that our four national teams will reach the finals and play in the finals in the SEA Games,” said Suzara.

The Philippines will also prepare for the 2022 Asian Games, which is set for September, in Hangzhou, China
