Romero Duno suffers fourth round TKO vs Frank Martin

MANILA, Philippines—Filipino brawler Romero Duno had a terrible start to the New Year losing to American Frank Martin via fourth round technical knockout in their lightweight 10-rounder Sunday (Manila time) at Seminole Hard Rock Cafe and Casino in Hollywood.

Their match was in the undercard of the event headlined by former heavyweight title challenger Luis Ortiz and Charles Martin. Luis won the fight via sixth round technical knockout.

Duno was on wits’ end from the opening bell as Martin managed to elude his offense throughout the match.

Martin meanwhile had no problem weaving in and out of Duno’s attack as he used his southpaw movement and counterpunching to keep the Filipino at bay.

In the fourth round, Martin decided to end the match as he scored the first knockdown  with a counter left cross.

Martin sent Duno wobbling to the canvass shortly after as the Filipino’s trainer Osmiri Fernandez called for the stop to the fight 2:54 into the fourth round.

The win kept Martin’s perfect run as he improved to 15-0 with 11 knockouts while Duno saw his three-fight winning streak, with all of his victories coming via stoppage, get snapped.

Duno, who slipped to 24-3, last loss to Ryan Garcia in November 2019.
