MANILA, Philippines—The PBA has postponed all of its games set this week after Metro Manila was reverted back to Alert Level 3 as the number of COVID-19 cases in the country rise.
The league on Monday announced the development on its website.
“The Philippine Basketball Association has postponed all scheduled games this week until it hears from the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) allowing the league to continue its tournament,” the league said.
“The league has already sent a letter to GAB on Monday and hopes to get a reply within a few days.”
The postponement came just as the PBA has started to welcome back its fans inside the venue.
Fans were finally allowed to catch the games live on December 15 just a week after the 2021 Governors’ Cup tipped off.
The Philippines recorded 4,600 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.
Aside from securing the approval of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), the PBA will also need the go-signal from Local Government Units (LGU) in order to resume play.
The PBA last held a game on December 26 before it went on a holiday break. A matchup between Magnolia and Blackwater and a game featuring Meralco and Alaska were supposed to take place on Wednesday.
