Stags whip Generals; St. Benilde stuns AdU

CALVIN Abueva came up with his usual numbers as San Sebastian blasted Emilio Aguinaldo College, 83-68, yesterday to keep solo third in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

Flirting with a triple-double anew, Abueva shone with 19 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Stags to their fourth straight victory in six games in Group B.

Ian Sangalang also had a solid output of 17 points and nine boards in the fight-marred match where five players from both teams and a team official got ejected in the second half.

St. Benilde earlier stunned Adamson, 71-66, to tie its victim at 2-4 also in Group B.

The Blazers closed out the thriller with a 10-0 outburst where Carlo Lastimosa knocked in six of his 16 points in the last 1:39 minutes.

Lastimosa also had seven rebounds and six assists, while center Robert Bartolo wound up with 17 markers and nine boards.

The Falcons, who missed the services of indisposed coach Leo Austria, last held the lead when Eric Camson completed a three-point play, 66-61, with 1:50 remaining.

But Lastimosa sparked St. Benilde’s fightback with a jumper off an assist from Paolo Taha, who also finished with 12 points.

The Blazers spoiled the big games of Adamson’s Eric Camson, who had 23 points and eight boards, and Rodney Brondial, who posted 15 markers and 10 rebounds.

San Sebastian’s Michael Miranda, Michael Juico and a team scorer got ejected following a third-quarter scuffle along with EAC’s Igee King, Jan Acebron and Herdy Duran. With reports from Randolph Leongson.
