MANILA, Philippines—Undefeated slugger Jade Bornea signed with Richard Schaefer’s company Probellum, making him the third Filipino boxer to join the promotion.
Probellum, in association with Sanman Boxing, announced the signing on Thursday with Bornea getting his fight under the new company on Saturday (Manila time) against Mohammed Obbadi in Monterrey, Mexico.
“I am thrilled to be signing with Probellum,” said Bornea (16-0, 10 knockouts). “I now have the one-two punch I needed to succeed out of the ring.”
Bornea joins Donnie Nietes and WBC bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire under Probellum which Schaefer, former Golden Boy Promotions CEO, launched in September 2021.
The 26-year-old from General Santos City fought just once outside the Philippines, a unanimous decision win over Ernesto Delgadillo for the North America Boxing Federation super flyweight title, and his bout against Obbadi is the biggest of his career.
With Bornea’s fight against Obbadi is an IBF super flyweight title eliminator, a win for the Filipino could net him a shot against the sanctioning body’s 115-pound champion Jerwin Ancajas.
“With Probellum and Sanman Boxing, I look forward to my upcoming IBF World Title Eliminator as just the start, with my ultimate goal to win the world title in 2022,” said Bornea.
“Sanman Boxing is thrilled to be partnering with one of the best promotional company’s in the sport,” added Jim Claude, Sanman Boxing Chief Executive Officer.
