MANILA, Philippines—Carlo Paalam started to shake off the holidays as he took the tracks on Thursday to kick off his 2022 campaign.

Paalam, the a silver medalist in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, did his cardio rounds in his hometown of Cagayan de Oro City.

“Vacation is over, let’s go back to business,” posted Paalam on Facebook. “First day of training in 2022. Let’s go!”

It remains unclear whether Paalam, who claimed the boxing silver in the men’s flyweight division in Tokyo last August, will fight for the Philippines in the 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam this May.

Paalam is coming off biggest year of his life not only inside the ring but also out of it.

His Olympic success brought in a generous outpouring of financial support to the former scavenger.

Paalam received his own house and lot in Cagayan de Oro City courtesy of local developer Vismin Cebu Landmasters Inc., as well as another home in Tagaytay.

He also recently opened his own mini grocery.

The 23-year-old also got promised a total of P24.5 million due to his success in Tokyo.
