MANILA, Philippines—Filipino pro Treat Huey and Indonesian partner Christopher Rungkat got booted in the second round after losing to the home nation’s Dane Sweeny and Li Tu, 7-6(6), 6-4, in the men’s doubles tournament of the 2022 Australian Open Friday at Melbourne Park.

The Australian partners had to gut out the first set win but the second saw them ultimately outclass Huey and Rungkat.

Li and Sweeny raced to an early 4-0 lead and while Huey and Rungkat managed to get to within one game, 5-4, it was a comeback too late for the Southeast Asian duo as the Australians held serve in Game 10.

Huey and Rungkat won their opening round match against Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Rohan Bopanna, 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-2.

Lizette Cabrera, who is Filipino-Australian descent, and partner Priscilla Hon was also eliminated in the second round of the women’s doubles competition.

Cabrera and Hon, who hails from Brisbane, Australia, lost to Japanese duo Shibahara Ena and Aoyama Shuko, 6-3, 6-2.
