MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines’ historic run in the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup has come to an end after losing to South Korea, 2-0, in the semifinals on Thursday in Pune, India.
South Korea, which ousted Australia in the quarterfinals, pounced early in the match at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex with Cho So-Hyun heading home Kim Hye-Ri’s corner in the fourth minute for the opening goal, 1-0.
Son Hwa-Yeon then doubled South Korea’s lead, 2-0, in the 34th minute with a close-range effort off of Choo Hyo-Joo’s cross.

Lee Mi-Na nearly gave the South Koreans a 3-0 lead but Olivia McDaniel denied the effort in the 88th minute.
Despite the exit, the Philippines still qualified for the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup as one of the six Asian representatives.
The Philippines earned its World Cup spot after a gutsy 1-1 (4-3) win over Taiwan in the quarterfinals.
