MANILA, Philippines—Aiming to raise the level of competition, the Chooks to Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup will parade imports for its upcoming season.

The regional league targets March 15 for its season opener to be held in Zamboanga City.

“These are the imports who have played in the NCAA, UAAP and other collegiate leagues. I already consider them as Filipinos because some of them has a Filipino wife,” said new commissioner Cris Bautista in Filipino during the PSA Forum on Tuesday.

Four teams in Bohol, Misamis Oriental, newcomer Ormoc and Zamboanga City have already signified their commitments for the second season while four more are in the process of joining.

Bautista is looking at featuring six teams that will play each other twice in the elimination round.

The league hopes to turn over a new leaf a year after its inaugural season was marred by an ugly game-fixing scandal that led to an expulsion of one club and players being banned.

“For me, we can’t just keep on accepting teams,” said Bautista, who checks on the background of the applying franchises, its owners, coaches, players, and team personnel.

“We need to be stringent this time. We will not tolerate those acts. I won’t let that happen again,” he added.
