MANILA, Philippines—Jaja Santiago and her club Saitama pulled through while Bryan Bagunas and Oita Miyoshi weren’t as fortunate in their respective matches at the Japan V.League Saturday.
Saitama and Santiago survived Toray in five sets, 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 16-25, 15-11, at Saitama Prefectural Budokan in Ageo City.
Lorenne Teixeira led the Ageo Medics with 27 points while Uchiseto Mami added 16 points.
Santiago also finished in double figures with 12 points for the sixth-running Saitama, which improved to 12-8.
Jana Kulan had 25 points to lead the Arrows while Ishikawa Mayu added 16 points as they stayed in the second spot with a 15-5 record.
Oita and Bagunas fell to their eighth straight loss, suffering a three-set sweep at the hands of JTEKT, 25-15, 25-20, 25-18, at Showa Denko Martial Arts Sports Center.
The Weisse Adler stayed in ninth in the men’s division with a 5-20 record while the Stings kept their hold of the sixth spot at 14-11.
Felipe Fonteles and Miyaura Kenta led JTEKT with 21 points apiece.
Bagunas finished with 16 points for the Weisse Adler while Emerson Rodriguez pitched in 11 points.
