V.League: Jaja Santiago, Saitama stretch winning streak

MANILA, Philippines—Saitama and Jaja Santiago secured their fourth straight win, taking a three-set sweep of Kurobe, 25-14, 25-18, 25-19, in the women’s division of the 2021-22 Japan V.League season Sunday at Wink Gymnasium in Hyogo.

The Ageo Medics, winner in five of their last six matches, improved to 15-8 at the fifth spot of the table while the Aqua Fairies dropped to 3-20 at the 12th seed.

Sato Yuka had 12 points to lead Saitama while Jaja Santiago added 11 points, six of which were kill blocks.

Lorenne Teixeira also finished in double figures for the Ageo Medics with 10 points while Aoyagi Kyoko added eight.

Merete Lutz had 15 points for Kurobe.

The Ageo Medics will next face the NEC Red Rockets on Wednesday at Saitama Prefectural Budokan.

Marck Espejo’s club FC Tokyo had its match against Sakai canceled due to the spread of COVID-19.
