Princess Superal is back, and the balance of power in the ICTSI Ladies Philippine Golf Tour (LPGT) has just tilted in her favor.
With a 10-leg season set to unfurl on Tuesday at majestic Luisita in Tarlac, Superal sets out as the player with the bull’s eye behind her back as she plays the local tour trying to sharpen her skills further for shots at the US and Japan women’s tours.
Superal won three of the first five legs of the LPGT in the bubble last year before leaving to chase her dreams, but playing locally again gives the tournament star power and a tested low-scoring machine.
A total of P750,000 will be staked in the first leg, with the season to culminate with a Grand Championship sometime in November.
Harmie Constantino will be another player to watch, being the last to beat Superal here. Her first title came at the expense of the multititled bet last year when she made her pro debut at Eagle Ridge.
Constantino won again at Aoki and went on to bag the Order of Merit unchallenged with Superal out of the tour.
Sunshine Baraquiel, Chanelle Avaricio and Daniella Uy also scored breakthroughs last year and are expected to figure prominently in Tarlac, where premium will be on precise placement of shots off the tees and accurate approaches.
The men’s tour also restarts on the same day, with a limited number of players seeing action.
