MANILA, Philippines — Filipino boxer Jonas Sultan lost to Paul Butler by unanimous decision in the World Boxing Organization (WBO) interim bantamweight title match on Saturday (Manila time) at M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England.

Butler got the best of the late replacement Sultan, winning the interim title with scores of 116-112, 118-110, and 117-111 in front of the home crowd.

He won his eighth consecutive match, improving his record to 36-2 with 15 knockouts.

Sultan, who is under MP Promotions, meanwhile, dropped to 18-6 with 11 KOs after Butler dominated him in 12 rounds.

It was the 30-year-old’s first loss in three years since a unanimous decision defeat to Athenkosi Dumezweni last April 2019.

Sultan was tapped to step in for his compatriot and reigning champion John Riel Casimero, who violated the British Boxing Board of Control’s medical guidelines for using a sauna to make weight.
