MANILA, Philippines—Adamson sent University of the Philippines crashing, 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-11, to earn its second straight victory in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament on Thursday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Trisha Genesis sustained her fine play while Kate Santiago was a revelation off the Lady Falcons’ bench to end the Fighting Maroons’ three-game win streak.

Buoyed by their stunning four-set win over Ateneo two days ago, Genesis, once again, led the charge for Adamson with 15 points off 11 spikes, two blocks and two aces including 10 excellent receptions as her team climbed in the solo fifth place with a 2-2 record.

Lorene Toring manned the frontline with 14 points, nailing four of the team’s eight blocks. Lucille Almonte had 13 points on top of 11 digs and six excellent receptions, while setter Louie Romero paced their offense with 23 excellent sets.

But Santiago was Adamson’s biggest surprise after scoring the timely hits and finishing with 11 points, including three aces.

“I just listened to the instructions of coach Lerma (Giron). I enjoyed the opportunity given to me inside the court and gave my all,” said Santiago, who was fielded in as a substitute in the first two sets.

The Lady Falcons coach Giron was pleased after different players stepped up in their first four games but she is still looking for the team’s right mix.

“Marami pa kaming dapat ayusin sa team. Kumbaga para kang nagtitimpla ng kape. Kailangan mong alamin kung matabang o matamis hanggang makuha yung tamang timpla,” Giron said.

(We still have a lot of things to work on. It’s like making a coffee, it can’t be bland or too sweet. We have to find the right blend.)

Alyssa Bertolano was the lone bright spot for UP with 15 points as the Maroons suffered their first defeat of the season.
