SEA Games: Gilas 3×3 teams stay in contention for gold medals
MANILA, Philippines–Despite a wobbly outing on the second day of pool play, the Philippines teams’ title-retention bids in the 31st Southeast Asian Games 3×3 event remain alive.
Gilas men settled for the No. 2 seed on Saturday afternoon after losing to host Vietnam, 21-14, in its final assignment in the men’s showcase at Thanh Tri Gymnasium in Hanoi.
Article continues after this advertisementThe women’s squad, meanwhile, will be entering the Final Four an inspired bunch after escaping tough-as-nails Malaysia, 13-11, earlier. It finished the preliminaries with a 3-3 record.
The 4-2 men’s 3×3 crew, which is bannered by pro-bound Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, will be taking on Thailand in a rematch of their semifinal encounter during the last edition of the biennial meet which was held in Manila.
Gilas women, led by sharp-shooting Janine Pontejos and the decorated Afril Bernardino, will also play Thailand, a side they lost to last Friday.
