MANILA, Philippines — Arnel Mandal delivered the Philippine wushu team’s second gold in the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at Cau Giay Gymnasium in Vietnam.
Mandal beat Indonesia’s Laksmana Pandu Pratama in the men’s sanda 56kg final.
The Filipino athlete swept the Indonesian in two sessions for the country’s second gold in Wushu.
Mandal ousted Thailand’s Thongchai Huanak in the semifinal with a thrilling 2-1 victory.
Mandal joined compatriot Agatha Wong, who captured the first gold medal for the Philippine wushu team in the women’s taolu taijijian event earlier.
Wong successfully defended her crown in women’s taolu taijijian after she settled for the silver medal in the women’s taijiquan event on Saturday.
