SEA Games: Rubilen Amit a win away from retaining 9-ball singles title

MANILA, Philippines—Rubilen Amit secured a sure silver after beating Xuan Vang Bui, 7-4, in the women’s 9-ball pool singles semifinal in the 31st Southeast Asian Games at Ha Dong Gymnasium in Vietnam.

Amit, the defending champion in the event, is gunning for her fifth 9-ball singles gold medal.

Filipino bet Jefrey Roda also moved one win away from the gold after he clipped Keen Hoo Moh of Malaysia, 5-4, in men’s snooker 6-red singles semifinal.

Overall, it was a good day for Filipino cue artists with the legendary Efren “Bata” Reyes, likewise, victorious following a 65-58 win over Suriya Suwannasingh of Thailand in men’s one-cushion carom.

The victory assured the crowd favorite Reyes of a bronze medal.

Like Reyes, Francisco Dela Cruz also sealed a spot in the podium after making the men’s 1-cushion carom singles semis with a win over Sompol Saetang of Thailand.
