MANILA, Philippines — Sarah Dequinan settled for a runner-up finish in women’s heptathlon, while Mark Harry Diones also got a silver medal in the men’s triple jump on Tuesday in the 31st Southeast Asian Games at My Dinh Stadium.
Dequinan, the winner of the 2019 SEA Games, missed the opportunity to retain her title, garnering 5,381 points and falling short to Vietnam’s 5,415.
Dequinan surpassed her previous record of 5,101 points. But her best wasn’t enough to repeat as gold medalist.
Her compatriot, Alexie Caimoso placed fifth with 4,375 points in her first SEA Games.
Diones tallied 15.87 meters for the silver of the men’s triple jump as Malaysia’s Andre Anura Anuar leaped 16.51 m for the gold.
Meanwhile, Robyn Brown won a bronze medal in the women’s 400m hurdles, clocking 56.44 seconds just 0.11 ticks behind gold medalist Lan Quach Thi (56.33) and 0.03 short from runner-up Huyen Nguyen Thi (56.41).
William Morrison, who delivered gold in shot put on Monday, placed third in the men’s discus throw with 50.44m, behind gold medalist Muhammad Irfan Shamsuddin of Malaysia (58.26) and silver Kiadpradid Srisai of Thailand (51.18).
