PH wrestlers win four more medals to end SEA Games stint

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine wrestling team wrapped up its 31st Southeast Asian Games stint by adding three silver medals and a bronze on Thursday at Gia Lam Gymnasium in Vietnam.

Ronil Tubog lost to Vietnam’s Tat Du Can, 0-2, as he finished with a silver medal in the final of the men’s freestyle 74kg.

Jhonny Morte beat hometown bet Xuan Dinh Nguyen to clinch the silver medal in the men’s freestyle 65kg.

Alvin Lobreguito also earned a 10-0 win result over Bounthien Kommalaxa of Laos for the runner-up finish in the 57kg class.

Meanwhile, Jason Balabal won his second bronze in the SEA Games after losing to Cambodia’s Sari Mo, 0-10, in the 97kg final round.

He got his first bronze medal in the men’s Greco-Roman 97kg event last Tuesday.

The Philippine wrestling team capped their campaign with seven silver and five bronze medals, including four medals—three silvers and a bronze—in the women’s division on Wednesday.
