MANILA—Filipino-American mixed martial arts standout Brandon Vera will join 16 MMA fighters in an exhibition today at the Mall of Asia activity center.
The event is a prelude to the Pacific X-Treme Combat’s debut in the country on June 11.
The exhibition will showcase the basics of MMA fighting styles, as well as the fighters’ training and practice regimen in the run-up to the Pacific X-treme Combat (PXC 24) event at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila.
Two Filipino fighters—Carlos Tiongson and Rogelito “Nonoy” Plomeda—will join fighters from Brazil, Korea, California, Florida, Hawaii, Guam and Saipan during the exhibition.
Vera, known as “The Truth,” has visited the country before, along with fellow MMA stars Georges St. Pierre and Chuck Liddel.
“We are very fortunate that one of UFC’s top MMA fighters, and one of the Philippines’ proudest sons, is here to support his fighters for PXC 24. We’d like to invite all MMA fans to come and experience what PXC is all about,” said EJ Calvo, PXC promoter and general manager.
Vera will support his fighters, Rolando Perez and Diego Garijo, from his Alliance Fight Academy in San Diego, California, who are fighting in the undercard.
PXC 24, presented by San Mig Strong Ice and Smart, along with Beer Below Zero, Healthway and venue partner Resorts World, will feature eight exciting fights, including a heavyweight title bout between Roque Martinez of Guam and Kelvin Fitial of Saipan.
