MANILA, Philippines — Eya Laure ponders her future after University of Santo Tomas’ stepladder semifinals exit in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament.

The league’s leading scorer unloaded an all-around effort of 15 points, 17 excellent receptions and eight digs, but UST got eliminated by the No.4 Ateneo, 23-25, 23-25, 20-25, in their knockout semis duel on Tuesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

After playing her second full season with UST, Laure mulls whether she would still continue to play her collegiate career or turn professional.

“Ngayon gusto ko munang mag-isip pero siyempre,” said Laure. “Pag-iisipan ko yan nang mabuti kasi hindi naman madaling iwan na lang ang UST nang ganun-ganun na lang.”

[For now, I will think about it. It won’t be an easy decision to make because it’s hard to leave UST.]

The 23-year-old spiker still has two playing years left after winning the top rookie plum and helping the Tigresses reach the Finals in Season 81 last 2019. Her supposed sophomore year was cut short to two games due to the first wave of COVID-19 Pandemic.

Laure has spent her whole playing career with UST since high school.

After a grueling season 84, Laure wants to take her time before deciding as she recovers from an injury, which she didn’t disclose.

“I can’t answer it right now. I will need to recover and train because I have injuries this season. Some people noticed that I played through injuries. I need to undergo rehab and strengthen my body,” Laure said.
