MANILA, Philippines–Magnolia forward Calvin Abueva has been suspended one game and fined P10,000 by the PBA for “unsportsmanlike conduct” during a game against Barangay Ginebra.

The league announced Abueva’s suspension on Tuesday.

Abueva was tossed with 9:15 left in the Hotshots’ game against the Gin Kings on Friday at Mall of Asia Arena after getting called for his second technical foul for bumping Nard Pinto.

Abueva had nine points and eight rebounds before the ejection. He left the venue even before the game ended.

Despite Abueva’s absence, Magnolia still went on to beat Ginebra, 89-84, for its second win in four outings.

The 34-year-old Abueva will serve his suspension against his former team Phoenix on Friday.

Getting punished for unsportsmanlike behavior is nothing new to Abueva.

Back in June 2019, Abueva was suspended indefinitely by the PBA. His suspension was eventually lifted after 16 months and appeared to have turned over a new leaf.

A year after his return from the lengthy suspension, Abueva was named Best Player of the Conference in the 2021 Philippine Cup.
