MANILA, Philippines–Phoenix Super LPG overcame its five-game tailspin on Saturday night, blowing out Converge, 89-66, in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Matthew Wright finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Jason Perkins added 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists as the Fuel Masters picked up their third win in 10 games which kept them in contention for a quarterfinals berth.

“It’s really been a while. It’s been tough for me and I bet the feeling has been mutual for the players,” said coach Topex Robinson, whose charges held the enemy to just nine 20 points in a cutthroat first half.

“We thought we had a choice. It’s either we’re gonna cry about being a victim of losing five straight games or move forward. Tonight we chose the latter,” he added.

Tyler Tio, Aljun Melecio and Larry Muyang all finished with at least 10 points each as Phoenix takes aim at Barangay Ginebra which by then has reunited with head coach Tim Cone.

Tyrus Hill and Abu Tratter each finished with nine points for the FiberXers, which missed out on a golden chance to bolster its bid for a comfortable playoff position.

Converge, now 4-6, will try to bounce back against Blackwater this Wednesday.
