MANILA, Philippines–Mikey Williams agreed to a three-year contract extension with TNT, ending a saga that began when last season’s Rookie of the Year opted to sit out the first five games of the PBA Philippine Cup.
A photo posted by the Tropang Giga’s social media account on Tuesday showed Williams being joined by team manager Jojo Lastimosa before signing a deal that came after contentious negotiations between the two parties.
League guidelines allow contracts of up to P420,000 per month, but there are constant whispers that some players receive beyond the maximum amount.

The agreement came a day before the Tropang Giga face the Converge FiberXers in the quarterfinals of the All-Filipino tourney at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
TNT, which placed second at the end of the eliminations, carries a twice-to-beat advantage against the PBA’s newcomer.
Both were at an impasse at the start of the season after Williams elected to invoke a clause to renegotiate his contract after leading TNT to last year’s Philippine Cup title.
Williams agreed on a two-year deal after being selected by the Tropang Giga in the 2021 PBA Draft.
He also skipped the early part of the conference but eventually returned after the Tropang Giga said it wouldn’t pay Williams’ salary.
