Tigresses, Lady Eagles play for all the marbles today

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas and Ateneo battle for the Shakey’s V-League crown one last time today in an evenly matched best-of-three title series that had admittedly put pressure on the two top seeds.

The Tigresses will try to reclaim volleyball supremacy after a two-year layoff while the Lady Eagles bid to defend their crown in the do-or-die Game 3 at 4 p.m. at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Ateneo coach Roger Gorayeb said he hopes his Lady Eagles will shrug off the pressure this time after they went through shaky stretches in their Game 2 victory last Tuesday.

“My players were tense so we committed many errors,” said Gorayeb. “The good thing was we were able to adjust in time.”

For UST coach Odjie Mamon, the Tigresses need to avoid another  mental meltdown to seal their bid for a seventh overall crown.

“The pressure affected the girls [in Game 2],” said Mamon. “When it comes to the championship, it’s more in the mind rather than skills.”
