MANILA, Philippines—Emilio Aguinaldo College used its blowout loss against St. Benilde two days ago as a motivation to bounce back and shut down Adamson 67-57 in the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup on Tuesday.
After being dealt a 30-point destruction in the hands of the Blazers on Tuesday, the Generals made it a point to resurge against a streaky Falcons team.
“Very much happy for this win, especially since that bad loss against CSB. I saw that they were able to respond well against such a good system in Adamson,” EAC head coach Oliver Bunyi said after the win.
Down by eight in the fourth quarter, 47-55, after the Falcons led for most of the game, the Generals used a strong 13-0 run to freeze Adamson to take over for good, 63-55, with 1:56 remaining.
Ralph Robin dealt the killer blow with a triple to stash out any hopes of a comeback for the Falcons, 66-55, with under a minute left. He finished with 10 points.
Before the Soaring Falcons took the lead early, they were caught in a tight first half with the Generals just trailing by one at the half, 29-28.
Adamson then used a 19-point third quarter to gain a six-point advantage, 47-41, but was unable to hold on to absorb its third loss so far.
Allen Liwag flirted with a double-double for EAC, posting 13 markers and nine rebounds. Jan Luciano also had 10 points and nine boards.
AP Manlapaz was the only double-digit scorer for Adamson with 11 points. Jerom Lastimosa and Cedrick Manzano did not play in Thursday’s game as Nash Racela rested them.
Adamson and EAC are now both at three wins and three losses in Group A standings.
