Lovely Vidal Inan caught Asian junior champion Rosegie Ramos on a bad day to rule the women’s 49kg category of the Smart-Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas National Open Championships in Tagbiliran, Bohol.
The 18-year-old from Angono, Rizal was a kilogram short of topping the snatch but dominated the clean and jerk with a 98kg lift for a combined effort of 176kgs in upstaging Ramos.
According to national coach Allen Diaz, the 19-year-old Ramos has been nursing a fever.
Ramos, who brought home three gold medals in the same weight class at the recent Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, managed to squeeze a victory in the snatch with an 82 on her third and last try.
She hoisted a 93 in the clean and jerk but fouled in her next two attempts, allowing Inan to seal the victory in the event.
The prized find from Zamboanga City along with her sister Rose Jean, the current world youth record holder in the women’s 40kg category, helped Team Philippines capture a total record of 15 golds medals in the Tashkent meet.
Placing third was Jhodie Peralta, who recorded 65kg in the snatch and 83 in the clean and jerk for a total lift of 148.
