MANILA, Philippines–POUND-FOR-POUND king Manny Pacquiao has decided to train in Metro Manila so he could continue to attend to his work as Sarangani representative.
Pacquiao announced this yesterday after arriving from Los Angeles, where he took part in a grueling three-city promotional tour for his scheduled showdown with Antonio Margarito at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Nov. 13.
Rizal Gov. Casimiro Ynares Jr. offered to make the air-conditioned Ynares Sports Center in Pasig available to Pacquiao, according to the fighter’s business manager, Eric Pineda.
Pineda said the governor, who is an avid Pacquiao fan, promised to set up all the necessary facilities for training.
Baguio City was the first choice of trainer Freddie Roach and conditioning expert Alex Ariza following the successful preparation for the WBO welterweight title fight against Miguel Cotto, whom Pacquiao halted in the 12th round last November.
The “Fighter of the Decade” showed his concern to serve his constituents by attending committee hearings in Congress a couple of hours after his arrival.
Pacquiao added that he would “start training this week by jogging to get into condition since the fight is two months away.” He said he would begin work in the gym next week.
