PBA: Yeng Guiao, NLEX part ways
MANILA, Philippines–Yeng Guiao has reportedly left as coach of the NLEX Road Warriors after a tenure that lasted five seasons and one conference.
Multiple outlets bared Guiao’s departure on Friday, a move that stunned the Road Warriors camp.
Inquirer has yet to independently confirm the development as of posting time.
NLEX recently played a tune-up game against Blackwater with Guiao, who is also the team’s general manager, calling the shots in preparation for the Commissioner’s Cup which opens September 21.
That is why reports of Guiao parting ways with the Road Warriors as a surprise. Both parties were said to be in talks on a contract extension.
Guiao joined NLEX before the 2016-17 season following a successful stint handling Rain or Shine.
Under the fiery mentor, the Road Warriors made two semifinal appearances, most recently in the 2022 Governors’ Cup where they lost to eventual champion Barangay Ginebra.
