MANILA, Philippines–NLEX on Friday confirmed the sudden departure of coach Yeng Guiao after five seasons and one conference at the helm.

A statement posted on the team’s official website said that Guiao and the Road Warriors “mutually agreed to part ways” but made no further details other than expressing gratitude for “helping the squad in becoming a consistent playoff contender.”

“It was a mutual decision between the NLEX Road Warriors management and Coach Yeng Guiao to end the agreement,” the Road Warriors said through their website ArangkadaNLEX.com.

“We thank him for developing the team. In fact, we reached the semis twice and this showed how he professionalized the team. We wish Coach Yeng all the best in his future endeavors.”

Guiao’s departure was considered a surprise since the move came weeks before the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The veteran mentor called the shots when NLEX recently faced Blackwater in a tune-up match at Epsilon Chi Center inside the University of the Philippines Diliman campus.

NLEX went 64-70 during Guiao’s tenure highlighted by two semifinal appearances.
