MANILA, Philippines—Alex Eala advanced to the US Open girls’ singles round of 16 after beating Slovakia’s Nina Vargova, 6-2, 6-3, at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York on Monday.
Eala showed her efficiency, trumping Vargova in only an hour and 15 minutes.
“Solid win today. I’m now in the Round of 16. Tomorrow I start my doubles event. Laban!” Eala posted on Facebook.
The Filipino tennis ace’s win came just 24 hours after whipping Annabelle Xu of Canada, 6-3, 6-0, in the first round.
This year’s US Open marked Eala’s return to juniors competition after seeing action in the pro circuit.
The 17-year-old Eala faces Taylah Preston of Australia on Wednesday for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Preston turned back Kenya’s Angella Okutoyi, 6-2, 7-6, 6-1, on Monday.
