Consistent Will Gozum bags NCAA Player of Week honors
MANILA, Philippines—Double-double machine Will Gozum was hailed as this week’s NCAA Player of the Week by the Collegiate Press Corps.
Despite absorbing its first loss against defending champion Letran on Friday, College of St. Benilde had a huge silver lining in the form of last season’s mythical five member in Gozum.
Article continues after this advertisementHe scored 23 points and 10 rebounds in the Blazers’ defeat, becoming a consistent scorer and leader for the Blazers in the process.
“I’m letting them know that I got their backs. I’m trying to make them calm whenever we’re in pressure moments,” Gozum said.
In the league’s second week, the 6-foot-6 big averaged 17.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 1.5 assists per game in the young season.
Article continues after this advertisementFor this week’s POW race, the forward-center blew by Letran’s Fran Yu and Brent Paraiso, San Beda’s James Kwekuteye and Lyceum’s Mac Guadaña.
Gozum and the Blazers, who hold a 3-1 win-loss record after two weeks, will face Arellano on Wednesday.
The NCAA Player of the Week award is presented by the Philippine Sports Commission.
