MANILA, Philippines — Filipino boxer Eumir Marcial shrugged off a deep cut on his right eye as he staved off American Steven Pichardo to stay unbeaten as a professional boxer.
Despite suffering a cut from an accidental headbutt in the second round, Marcial scored a unanimous decision win over Pichardo in their six-round middleweight fight on Sunday (Manila time) in California.
The Olympic bronze medalist remained unbeaten in three matches with one knockout as a pro.
The 26-year-old Marcial sustained his fine showing from his previous match last April where he knocked out Isiah Hart in the fourth round in Las Vegas.
Pichardo slid to an 8-3 record (2 KOs) in front of his home crowd.
Marcial’s bout against Pichardo was an undercard for Jerwin Ancajas-Fernando Martinez rematch, where the former Filipino world champion failed to reclaim the IBF title.
