MANILA, Philippines—Defending champion Carlo Biado advanced to the US Open Pool Championship Last 16 on Thursday at Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Biado blew past Petri Makkonen of Finland, 9-4, before trumping Japan’s Naoyuki Oi, 9-6, to advance to the race-to-10 knockout stage.

He will next face Poland’s Konrad Juszczyszyn.

Fellow Filipinos Lee Van Corteza and Roland Garcia also advanced to the next round.

Corteza bested United Kingdom and Chinese Taipei, Jayson Shaw, 9-2,  and Ko Pin Yi, 9-4. 

Garcia, on the other hand, trounced Venezuela and Poland representatives, Jesus Atencio, 9-4, and Wojciech Szewczyk, 9-6.

Other Filipino bets Johann Chua and Roberto Gomez made their exits in the Round of 64 after bowing to Albania’s Eklent Kaci, 9-7, and Chinese Taipei’s Wu Kun Lin, 9-3, respectively.
