The second-seeded pair of Shaira Hope Rivera and Alyssa Bornia stopped the upset run of sisters Kaye and Mica Ella Emana with a 6-3, 6-4 victory Saturday for the women’s doubles title of the 39th PCA Open Tennis Championships at its Plaza Dila, Paco indoor shell court.
Rivera-Bornia proved far more experienced, making short work of the Emana sister act for the championship.
It was a win that came after Rivera-Bornia downed Jenaila Rose Prulla and Makeilah Nepomuceno, 6-2, 7-6 (6), in the semis.
The men’s doubles title showdown between the second-seeded Jeson Patrombon-Elbert Anasta pair against Jose Antonio Tria-Bryan Saarenas was going on at press time.
Patrombon and Anasta made it through by eliminating top seeds Johnny Arcilla and Ronard Joven, 7-6 (6) 7-6 (5), while Tria and Saarenas downed Joshua Kinaadman and Nilo Ledesma, 6-1, 5-7, 10-8, to arrange an intriguing title clash.
