Jasmine eyes PH team stint

JASMINE Tan Ho, one of country’s most promising tennis players, swears she’s having a hard time juggling the sport she loves most in one hand, and her studies in the other.

It hardly shows.

The high school junior at the International School Manila proved that again recently with her stunning win in the ladies singles of the 2nd MSC Open at Makati Sports Club.

“Given the choice I would love to compete in more tournaments, but I have to give focus on my studies as well and try to strike balance between the two,” said the 17-year-old whose dainty good looks clash with her fierce forehands and strong presence on the court.

Last Sunday she displayed such tenacity in turning back youth sensational Roxanne Rezma,  6-7 (9-7), 6-4, 6-4, in the final which lasted for three hours.

In reaching the final, the junior Fed Cup member shocked Philippine team stalwart Marinel Rudas, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

Ho said she’s planning to study in the United States but would not close the doors on future tours of duty for the PH team.

“It’s everyone’s dream to represent his or her country abroad,” said Ho.
