Warriors coach is ABL’s best

INDONESIA Warriors coach Todd Purves captured the Asean Basketball League (ABL) Coach of the Year award, the league announced just days after the American mentor steered his Warriors to an upset rout of the Beermen in Game 2 of the finals series.

“Well, to be honest I have never really thought about any personal awards as we just have a team concept,” said Purves, who edged San Miguel coach Bobby Parks in the peer voting system. “With all the good coaches in the ABL, I am truly surprised. I am more than humbled by the respect of my peers.”

The Warriors foiled the Beermen’s title sweep bid with a 20-point drubbing, 81-61, last Saturday in Jakarta to forge a do-or-die duel in the best-of-three series.

The Beermen, who took Game 1, 86-83, aim to wrap it up this time in Game 3 set at 4 p.m. this Saturday at the Ynares Sports Arena.
