6 Filipinos vying in Paralympics
SIX Filipino athletes have earned slots in the 2012 London Paralympic Games as the British Embassy and the British Council also kicked off yesterday the countdown to the world’s biggest sporting event for the differently abled.
Josephine Medina (table tennis), Marites Burce (athletics), Bea Roble (swimming), Adeline Dumapong-Ancheta, Achelle Guion and Agustin Kitan (powerlifting) will represent the Philippines in the Games set Aug. 29 to Sept 9, Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled (Philspada) secretary general Butch Weber announced yesterday.
British and Philspada officials also launched the “I Can” photo contest.
“We want to harness the opportunity the Games present to bring about a change in the way people think, feel and behave toward disability,” British Chargé d’ Affaires Trevor Lewis said during the PSA Forum yesterday at Shakey’s UN Avenue.
