Otake-Castro wrests low gross lead

Masaichi Otake and Zachary Castro combined for 72 points in aggregate play at Legends Friday to take the centerpiece overall gross lead with one day left in the Manila Southwoods Invitational in Carmona, Cavite.

Counting a similar 72 at tough-as-nails Masters on Wednesday, Otake, the club member and Castro, the reigning Hurricane Junior Golf Tour in North Carolina champion, would hope that their 144 holds after Saturday’s action as they have a nine-point lead on the Florene delos Santos-Chino Raymundo pair.

Delos Santos-Raymundo was dragged down by a 55 at Legends after a remarkable 80 at Masters, while Claire Ong and Gabrielle Monfort are a point behind at 134 after a 64 and 70, over the two layouts, respectively.

Richard Chua-Fernando Lim wrested control in the overall net race with 84 points at Legends for 178 and a five-point lead over the Rodolfo Faustino III-Ed Camacho tandem, which finished with 173 after 81 points at Legends, while Brian Park-Eden Hernandez put in 77 points at Legends for joint third at 171 like Karlo Miguel-Juan Carlos Reyes, which fired 75 points at Legends.
