Former No. 1 Garbine Muguruza extending hiatus
Former World No. 1 Garbine Muguruza is extending her hiatus through the clay and grass seasons.
The two-time Grand Slam singles champion revealed the update to her tennis schedule Monday on Instagram.
Article continues after this advertisement“Spending time with family and friends and it’s really been healthy and amazing, so I am going to lengthen this period till summer, therefore I am going to miss clay and grass season,” the 29-year-old from Spain wrote.
She has not competed since a first-round loss to 18-year-old Czech qualifier Linda Noskova at Lyon in February.
Ranked No. 1 in September 2017, Muguruza has dropped to No. 132 in the world.
