MANILA, Philippines—Barangay Ginebra’s Japeth Aguilar gave a prelude to his potential return when he showed up for Game 1 of the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals in full battle gear.

Aguilar didn’t play in Sunday’s 102-90 win over the TNT Tropang Giga to draw first blood in the series at Smart Araneta Coliseum, but his presence while wearing the Gin Kings jersey seems to be a significant indication that he’s close to getting back.

The veteran big man has not played since February when he suffered an MCL sprain against NLEX.

He has played just two games, including that meeting with the Road Warriors, this conference, posting 13.5 points and 4.0 rebounds.

Coach Tim Cone initially gave an indication that Aguilar may play in Game 1, but assured that he will see action during the course of the series with TNT.

His likely comeback could only give Ginebra further boost after a convincing result to begin the title showdown.

That as well as Ginebra capitalizing on TNT being shorthanded in the middle with Kelly Williams still out due to an injured calf.

Worse, TNT saw Justin Chua hurt his knee just three minutes into the Finals opener.
