MANILA, Philippines—The best high school girls’ volleyball players of the country will be put to the test when the Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball Invitational officially opens next month at San Andres Gym.

Five schools from the UAAP, four from the NCAA and schools from other leagues and provincial tournaments will make up the 16-squad pool for the invitational.

“We’re excited because not only do we have the top UAAP schools, we have the top NCAA schools, and we also have the top non-UAAP and NCAA schools joining the tournament,” Ian Laurel, Athletic Events and Sports Management Inc. (ACES) President, said in a Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum on Tuesday at Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

“We got the best of the best in the high school division.”

The program was built after the success of the Shakeys’ Super League Collegiate Preseason Cup where National University reigned supreme last year.

“We’re turning our eyes on the high school division, both junior and high school,” ACES chairman Phillip Ella Juico said.

“As we said, this is an invitational, you have the cream of the crop,” he added.

Game days will only be on Saturdays and Sundays, beginning on May 6. Six games will be played per day.

The teams will be grouped in four pools with four teams each. The top two of the pools after the round-robin will advance to the playoffs.

The quarters and semis will be played in a one-off knockout game while the Finals will be played in a best-of-three series.
