The Team Philippines, led by an all-female delegation with volleyball star Alyssa Valdez carrying the flag, proudly marched during the parade of nations in the lavish 32nd Southeast Asian Games opening ceremonies on Friday night at Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Cambodia, the first-time host of the SEA Games, showcased its country’s rich history and culture in an elaborate program highlighted by an impressive singing and dancing show at the 60,000-seat stadium.
Tickets to the biennial meet have been given away for free. Cambodia has also shouldered the costs of food and accommodation of all athletes and coaches of the participating nations.
The Philippines got off to a solid start in the SEA Games, placing second in the medal tally behind host Cambodia as of Saturday noon.
