PHNOM PENH—Wrestler Ronil Tubog brought down Indonesia’s Zainal Abidin, 3-1, in the finals of the men’s freestyle 61kg to snatch the gold medal at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.
The 30-year-old Tubog punctuated a rewarding stint for the Pinoy grapplers, who amassed a golden haul of four golds at the end of wrestling competitions here at the Chroy Changvar Convention Hall.
Tubog dominated Cambodia’s Soeun Sophors in the semifinals, 4-0, in front of a highly partisan crowd before the victory over Abidin.
Tubog’s gold came after the earlier triumphs of Alvin Lobreguito in the men’s freestyle 57kg, Jason Balabal in the men’s Greco Roman 87kg and Maria Cristina Vergara in the women’s freestyle 65kg.
